Meta Platforms announced on Friday a partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to deploy tens of millions of AWS Graviton cores across its computing infrastructure, making it one of the world's largest Graviton customers. The agreement expands Meta's long-standing cloud collaboration with AWS and reflects a broader tech industry trend toward using specialized processors for artificial intelligence tasks, Benzinga reports.
The deal is aimed at powering Meta's agentic AI systems—autonomous software capable of reasoning, planning, and executing multi-step tasks—which are becoming increasingly demanding on CPU resources. Meta stated that the initial deployment will begin with tens of millions of Graviton cores, with the potential for further expansion as AI capabilities evolve.
The AWS Graviton5, introduced in December 2025, features 192 cores based on the Arm architecture in a single socket using a 3-nanometer process. It delivers up to 25% higher performance than its predecessor and a fivefold increase in L3 cache. These specifications are tailored for workloads requiring high-speed data processing and broad bandwidth—exactly what agentic AI needs for continuous analysis and task execution at scale.
"This isn’t just about chips—we’re giving customers the infrastructure foundation, along with data and inference services, to build AI that understands, anticipates, and scales efficiently to billions of people globally," said Nafea Bshara, Vice President and Distinguished Engineer at Amazon, in Meta’s official announcement.
Santosh Janardhan, Meta's Head of Infrastructure, described the deal as part of a broader portfolio strategy. "Diversifying our compute sources is a strategic necessity," he said. "Moving to Graviton allows us to run CPU-intensive agentic AI tasks with the performance and efficiency required at our scale."
