The Information reported new details about the next major update of the Siri voice assistant in iOS. Apple and Google have agreed on deep integration of the Gemini model, while Siri will remain fully autonomous in its interface, with no references to Google appearing in the system.
According to the publication’s sources, Google will specially adapt Gemini to Apple’s requirements, and Apple will further fine tune the model to meet its own standards of quality and security. In the iOS interface the underlying technology will remain invisible to the user, in the same way that the current integration with ChatGPT works.
The updated assistant will gain much broader general knowledge without needing to redirect users to a web browser. Among the key improvements are the following features.
The assistant will provide basic emotional support by recognizing the user’s mood from voice and context and offering reassurance or motivation when appropriate.
It will interpret vague or ambiguous requests more accurately, for example by analyzing message history to determine the correct contact even if the person is saved under a different name.
It will handle practical tasks such as booking tickets, reserving tables in restaurants, and creating or editing notes.
A strong emphasis is placed on proactivity. Siri will be able to suggest actions in advance. One example mentioned is reminding the user when to leave for the airport based on current traffic conditions.
The introduction of the new functions will take place in several stages. Some features, including basic emotional support and improved understanding of requests, are expected to appear in spring 2026 with the release of iOS 26.4. More advanced scenarios, such as long term context memory and proactive suggestions, are planned to be presented in summer at WWDC 2026.
Apple and Google have agreed on deep customization of Gemini for Siri. The assistant will gain broader knowledge, emotional support capabilities, and improved handling of vague requests. The first improvements are expected in spring 2026 with iOS 26.4, while more advanced features will follow in summer. There will be no mention of Google in the interface, and everything will remain within the Apple ecosystem. This represents one of the most significant upgrades to Siri in recent years.
