Charger that turns an iPhone into a desktop robot unveiled at CES 2026

January 7, 2026  18:50

At the Consumer Electronics Show CES 2026, the company Yoona presented an unusual gadget: the DeskMate robotic charging station. This device does more than just charge an iPhone — it turns it into a full-fledged AI assistant with a “living” personality. The Verge reported on the new product.

How DeskMate Works

The main advantage of DeskMate is that it does not duplicate the smartphone’s hardware. The station has no built-in screen, camera, or microphone: all computing, speech recognition, and image processing are handled by the inserted iPhone. The dock itself is responsible only for charging and mechanical movement.

The design allows the device to rotate and tilt, so the smartphone always “faces” the user during a conversation. The DeskMate body features animated eyes that make it resemble a lively character, adding an emotional element to the interaction.

The gadget supports integration with popular services, including Slack, allowing it to become a useful desktop assistant: replying to messages, reminding about tasks, or simply chatting.

Technical Specifications

DeskMate is equipped with several ports for convenience:

three USB-C ports;
one USB-A port;
MagSafe wireless charging.

This makes it possible to charge an iPhone while simultaneously connecting other devices, effectively replacing traditional hubs and stands.

When It Will Be Available

Yoona plans to bring DeskMate to market via a crowdfunding campaign, expected to launch in March 2026. The exact price has not yet been announced, but the company positions the device as an affordable alternative to full-fledged smart displays and companion robots.

Why This Is Interesting

At a time when AI is becoming ever more integrated into everyday life, solutions like this demonstrate a new approach: instead of creating separate devices with their own “brains,” manufacturers leverage the computing power of smartphones people already own. DeskMate is an example of how a familiar iPhone can gain a second life as a desktop assistant.

In Brief

At CES 2026, Yoona debuted the DeskMate robotic charger, which turns an iPhone into an animated AI assistant with a rotating mechanism and expressive “eyes.” The device has no built-in screen or camera, relying entirely on the smartphone, while offering MagSafe charging, USB ports, and integration with services like Slack. Market launch is planned via crowdfunding in March. It is a fresh take on making a desk smarter without adding unnecessary gadgets.
