Apple to raise prices on iPhone and other devices in early 2026 due to memory crisis

December 15, 2025  13:00

The global shortage of memory chips driven by the AI boom has reached Apple. The company is preparing to raise prices on its products in the first half of 2026, including both current models and upcoming releases such as the iPhone 18 and the foldable iPhone Fold. The reason is the expiration of long-term contracts with Samsung and SK hynix, which will sharply increase DRAM prices starting in January.

Why Memory Prices Are Rising Now

Korean semiconductor giants have redirected production toward more profitable segments, including DDR5 memory for PCs and HBM for AI accelerators. As a result, consumer-grade memory has become scarce. Samsung has even refused to supply DRAM to its own mobile division in order to maximize profits. Contract prices have already risen by tens of percent, and the trend is expected to continue into 2026.

This will affect Apple’s entire product lineup, from entry-level MacBooks to flagship MacBook Pro models with M6 chips and OLED displays. Even Qualcomm and MediaTek are making LPDDR6 exclusive to their top-tier chips, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Dimensity 9600, due to the same cost pressures.

Apple Has Advantages, but They Will Not Fully Offset the Impact

Apple has massive cash reserves and its own in-house technologies that reduce dependence on external suppliers. The company’s custom C1 5G modem in the iPhone 16e already saves about $10 per device, and an improved C2 modem is expected for flagship models in 2026. However, even these advantages will not fully prevent price increases, as memory remains a critical component.

What Consumers Should Expect

In the first half of 2026, iPhones, MacBooks, and other Apple devices will become more expensive. Exact figures are not yet known, but analysts estimate increases of 5 to 15 percent depending on the model. If you are planning a purchase, it may be wise to do so before the New Year, while existing stock is still available at current prices.

In Brief

Due to the memory chip crisis and the expiration of favorable contracts with Samsung and SK hynix, Apple will raise prices on iPhones, MacBooks, and other devices in early 2026. In-house chips and modems will soften the impact, but they will not fully prevent price increases. If an upgrade is in your plans, it is better not to wait until the end of 2025.
