AI and “physical intelligence”: Armenia’s technological growth potential according to Vincent Roche

Armenia is increasingly positioning itself as a future regional technology hub. The country’s IT sector is growing rapidly, international innovation forums are being held, the government is open to collaboration with industry, and artificial intelligence is becoming the key driver of a new technological era. But can a small nation truly transform into a center of high technology — and what steps are necessary to achieve this?

These questions were explored by Vincent Roche, CEO of Analog Devices Inc. and winner of the Global High-Tech Award 2025.

Armenia’s Potential as a Technology Hub

According to Vincent Roche, many countries declare ambitions to become technology centers, but Armenia has a rare advantage — deep historical roots in STEM fields, mathematics, engineering, and both hardware and software technologies.

“You already have a powerful foundation of knowledge and a proven ability to create complex end products,” he noted.

Roche emphasized that Armenia now faces a unique opportunity brought by AI — “the strongest technology accelerator in history.” It is the combination of scientific culture and this new technological wave, he said, that gives the country a chance to leap ahead.

He added that he views Armenia’s potential more optimistically than that of many other nations, as its historical development trajectory demonstrates an ability to adapt and to integrate diverse technological directions.

AI Can Redefine the Future of a Small Country

Roche recalled the well-known phrase: “AI will not replace humans — it will replace those who fail to use it.” He believes AI should not be feared but actively embraced.

In his view, we are still in the early phase — large language models show great promise, but the true breakthrough will come when AI is applied to the creation of real products and systems that improve people’s lives, support planetary health, and accelerate technological progress.

In this context, he pointed to the need to move toward “physical intelligence” — systems that not only analyze data but also interact with the physical world.
“When we start building products that truly change lives — that’s when AI will reveal its full potential. And I believe Armenia can play an important role in that process,” Roche emphasized.

How Industry and Government Can Benefit from AI

Roche highlighted the importance of strategic collaboration between government, business, and the expert community. Such cooperation, he said, is exactly what industries need to build a unified vision and environment for AI integration.

He noted that artificial intelligence enables the creation of adaptive and autonomous systems that greatly enhance human capabilities. Despite its small population, Armenia can “multiply its influence” if it leverages AI effectively.

One of the most promising areas, according to Roche, is healthcare.
“Today’s global system is built on clinical care — what insurance companies pay for and hospitals provide,” he said.

However, he believes Armenia can rethink the model by integrating computational and sensor technologies with AI to create a predictive healthcare system — one capable of detecting bodily changes early and preventing chronic diseases before they develop.

Roche concluded that this is one of the most valuable and impactful directions for applying artificial intelligence — and one where Armenia has a real opportunity to lead.
