Google introduces Pixel 9: What features does it have?

Google introduced at the Made by Google 2024 event Tuesday several new products, including the Pixel 9 smartphone. This is the base model of the new series, which features flagship capabilities, including a powerful processor, a set of AI features from Google, the Satellite SOS function, and support for Magic Editor.

The Google Pixel 9 is powered by the Tensor G4 processor, which includes a high-performance Arm Cortex-X4 core, three Cortex-A720 cores, four Cortex-A520 cores, a Mali-G715 GPU, and an Exynos 5400 modem. The RAM is 12 GB, which is particularly important for the local use of the Gemini Nano neural network.

The smartphone features a 6.3-inch Actua OLED display with FHD+ resolution (2424×1080 pixels), a 120 Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 2700 nits. Google has replaced the optical fingerprint scanner with a more reliable ultrasonic one, integrated into the display. The screen is protected from scratches by durable Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

At the top of the display is a front-facing camera with a 10.5 MP sensor from Samsung. On the back panel, in the "island" section, are the main 50 MP Samsung ISOCELL GNK sensor, 1/1.31 inches in size, with optical stabilization support, and a 48 MP ultra-wide-angle sensor, 1/2.55 inches in size, with an improved macro mode for close-up shots. The smartphone also has an Add Me feature that allows two photos to be combined into one image. Thanks to AI, the image will look like a regular group photo. Additional features include Night Sight for astrophotography, Best Take, and more.

The 4700 mAh battery supports fast charging with a power of 45 W, allowing the device to be charged up to 55% in just 30 minutes. The new 45 W Google USB-C charger is sold separately. The device meets the IP68 standard for water and dust resistance.

The Pixel 9 comes with Android 14 and will soon be updated to Android 15. Google promises OS and security updates for 7 years. It’s worth noting that the emergency satellite communication feature will only be available in the US, with the service being free for the first two years.

The Pixel 9 is available in four colors: Porcelain, Peony, Wintergreen, and Obsidian. The starting price for the Pixel 9 is $799.
