SkyAgro Armenia: We offer technologies that reduce production costs and increase agricultural yields

The new technologies we offer in the field of agriculture are aimed at reducing the cost of production and increasing crop yields. Mihran Sahakyan, the co-founder and technical director of the company SkyAgro Armenia, said in an interview with NEWS.am Tech.

He explained that the company is introducing two innovations in Armenia. “One of them is the use of agricultural drones instead of tractors for fertilizing crops, which will lead to a significant reduction in the use of chemicals, emissions of harmful substances and a reduction in water consumption.

This also allows avoiding the damage to the crop caused by a tractor when working in the field. In addition, drones not only replace tractors during the season, but also make up for the shortage of equipment that is periodically observed. The technology has shown itself to be positive in Armenia over the past three years," the director of SkyAgro Armenia emphasized.

He added that another important area of ​​the company's work is the digitalization of agriculture. According to his assessment, the lack of data recording leads to chaotic decision-making on the part of individual farmers on what to grow and what not. To solve planning problems, SkyAgro Armenia is introducing a corresponding platform in the field of agriculture in Armenia.

"This allows farmers to enter data on the work carried out on the land. This change will help us provide the right advice and tips on how to maximize yields. Meetings and discussions are being held with government representatives on the issue of expanding the use of agricultural drones in agriculture using subsidy tools, which will further reduce the cost of the services we provide," Sahakyan emphasized.

He said that before cooperation with SkyAgro Armenia, farmers used 1.2-1.5 times more chemicals than after.

"The drone allows you to spray fertilizer more evenly and covers the largest possible useful area. More than 97% of our clients are satisfied with our cooperation. Since the beginning of the year, there have been 300 more of them, each of whom processes an average of 5 hectares of land.

We ourselves determine the dose that needs to be sprayed, based on objective calculations, and also provide accounting services. In addition, we collect information based on satellite images. All this can allow us to plan on what day and what volume of harvest the farmers working with us will have, which will solve the problem of selling products," the company's director said.

He expressed SkyAgro Armenia’s interest in moving to organic farming as it will increase demand for the company’s services and also enhance Armenia’s competitiveness.

“Over time, farmers who switch to organic farming will have sensors installed that will allow them to receive information about the weather, harvest, soil condition, and so on. We hope that these sensors will be provided to farmers using grant funds,” Sahakyan added.

He is confident that organic agricultural products can be sold at any price in the world. "Everything depends on marketing and other factors. Here we see great potential for Armenian agriculture. Serious interest in our company is also shown by other countries, where they want to implement the technologies we offer," concluded the director of SkyAgro Armenia.
