November 30, 2022  18:39

Chinese company Xiaomi was supposed to unveil its new Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro smartphones on December 1, but the presentation has been postponed. Although the official reason for the delay is not named, the Chinese media claim that it is related to the death of former Chinese President Jiang Zemin. He died today, November 30, at the age of 96.

"Dear users and friends: We are sorry to inform you that the launch of the new Mi 13 series will be postponed. We will notify you as soon as the new release date is confirmed. Thank you for your understanding and support," the company said in a statement.

In addition to the new smartphones, the presentation was supposed to show Buds 4 Pro headphones, Watch 2S, computer and other new Xiaomi products.

The new date of the presentation has not yet been announced.

It is worth noting that Xiaomi is not the only company that canceled the presentation of its devices because of the death of Jiang Zemin. iQOO also canceled the presentation of its flagship smartphone iQOO 11, which was scheduled for December 2.

What is currently known about the Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro?

The Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro are the company's first smartphones based on the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 single-chip system. What's more, they will get the fastest memory on the market: LPDDR5X (which manufacturers claim offers a 33% performance boost over previous models) at 8,533 Mbps and UFS 4.0 flash memory (which increases sequential read and write speeds by 100%).

The smartphones will also get the new MIUI 14 interface, which was also due to be announced on December 1. It promised four important improvements.

  • Fewer pre-installed apps;
  • More practical features;
  • New design;
  • Smoother and more stable system performance.

Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun says the Xiaomi 13, equipped with a 4,500mAh battery, will last longer without charging than the iPhone 14 Pro Max and other flagship smartphones.

The Xiaomi 13 is also expected to feature a 6.2-inch 1.5K or 2K resolution display and a 50-megapixel Sony IMX8 series primary camera. According to the news, the phone's body will have the following dimensions: 152.83 x 71.53 x 8.37.

As for the Xiaomi 13 Pro, it will be equipped with a primary camera made by Leica, which will have a 1-inch optical-format image sensor. Lei Jun recently posted some examples of photos taken by the Xiaomi 13 Pro camera on his Weibo page, which look impressive.
