Google release update for Chrome: What new features does it have?

July 25, 2024  18:42

Google has updated the threat detection system in downloadable files and virus scanning algorithms in the Chrome browser. The browser now more effectively determines the danger level of files and even scans password-protected archives, reports Bleeping Computer.

Now, Chrome not only warns about potential threats but also classifies the file as suspicious or dangerous, stopping the download. In Enhanced Protection mode, the browser automatically uploads suspicious files to the cloud for deep scanning.

Google claims that cloud scanning increases the likelihood of threat detection by 50 times. Users can check encrypted archives by entering the password so that they can be scanned by artificial intelligence. This feature is only available in Enhanced Protection mode, while standard settings only scan file metadata.

Suspicious files are marked with a gray triangle, and high-risk files with a red icon. The update is already rolling out to Chrome browser users.
