New iPad Pro to receive M4 chip and to be more powerful than Apple computers

The M4 platform may appear even earlier than we all expected: according to well-known insider Mark Gurman, the 2024 iPad Pro may receive this particular processor, skipping the M3 generation. This will not only give the new tablet AI functions, but will also make it even more powerful than Apple computers.

“I’m hearing there is a strong possibility that the chip in the new iPad Pro will be the M4, not the M3. Better yet, I believe Apple will position the tablet as its first truly AI-powered device — and that it will tout each new product from then on as an AI device. This, of course, is all in response to the AI craze that has swept the tech industry over the last couple years,” the insider wrote.

According to Gurman, the tablet will be extremely powerful thanks to the new Neural Engine in the M4 chip (most likely, the new SoC will be used solely for the more powerful NPU unit it will most likely have). In addition, the new iPad will receive an OLED display, and the camera location will be changed.

It's unclear exactly what AI features will be available when the tablet launches, as much of Apple's AI software is expected at WWDC in June, along with the launch of iOS 18.

In addition to the announcement of the new 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro, a new iPad Air line is also expected to be released, this time with a larger screen. The presentation of new Apple products will take place on May 7 at 18:00 Yerevan time.

According to Gurman, the remaining iPad series are expected to be updated in the fall of 2024. At the same time, Apple will likely introduce new Macs with M4 processors.
