In recent years, more and more architects and engineers are designing “living” buildings - with walls and roofs covered with vegetation. The NEWS.am Tech editorial team brings to your attention several beautiful “living” buildings, one of which is located in Armenia.

CaixaForum Museum, Madrid, Spain

This contemporary art museum's main attraction is its huge vertical garden, designed by French botanist Patrick Blanc. The garden spans over 4,951 square feet and features over 15,000 plants of 250 species, thriving through a sophisticated hydroponic system. This living wall not only beautifies the building, but also helps regulate indoor temperature and improves air quality.

The entire undulating structure of this iconic building is covered by a living roof made up of more than 2.5 million native California plants. Beyond aesthetics, a green roof helps insulate a building, reducing energy consumption and demonstrating the possibilities of sustainable design.

UWC Dilijan College, Dilijan, Armenia

Situated among the breathtaking Diilijan Mountains, this educational institution seamlessly combines green elements with modern architecture in its design. The roof of the main building features native plants that provide natural insulation and provide visual contrast to the surrounding landscape. There are also living walls, in the process of growing which college students are actively involved.

Bosco Verticale (Vertical Forest), Milan, Italy

This residential complex takes the concept of green buildings to a whole new level. The two towers have cascading balconies adorned with more than 20,000 trees and shrubs, forming a unique vertical forest in the city. The complex's innovative design not only provides residents with a connection to nature, but also helps absorb pollutants and improve air quality.

Green Ribbon of Nanjing, Nanjing, China

This office complex boasts a unique design element - a green "ribbon" that encircles the building. This “ribbon” is not just decorative; it is a functional green wall covering over 6,000 square meters. Vegetation helps regulate temperature, promotes biodiversity and creates a more pleasant environment for occupants.
