MSI to release Z790 motherboards with DDR4 support

Many motherboard manufacturers are planning to migrate to DDR5 RAM in new Intel 700 chipset-based solutions. Amid these rumors, MSI is teasing new solutions based on its flagship Z790 chipset with DDR4 support. A virtual show of the new boards is scheduled for September 27.

So far, we know about three models - Z790 EDGE, Z790 TOMAHAWK, and Z790 PRO. According to Tomshardware.com, all three models will support speed modules up to DDR4-5333 and faster with one peer module per channel, and up to DDR4-4400 and faster with two peer modules per channel.

Owners of such high-speed memory can expect high performance with new processors, and they will not have to give up DDR4 and shell out the cash to upgrade or build a new platform.

MSI is expected to continue with the current branding of its products, dividing the range into three broad segments – the high-end MEG series, the mid-range MPG series, and the lower-end MAG series. The MEG range includes models such as Godlike, Unify, and Ace. The MPG series includes models such as Carbon and Edge, and the MAG series includes the popular and beloved Tomahawk.

If you do not want to buy a new motherboard but want to upgrade to a new processor, you can do this. Sellers have already released BIOS updates for the 600 series motherboards that add support for 13th-generation processors.
