iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X will not receive the iOS 17 update

The next major update of Apple's iOS 17 mobile operating system will take place in the fall, but not all iPhone owners will be able to use the new platform and appreciate its functional capabilities.

iOS 17, which was announced at the Apple WWDC 2023 event held yesterday, cannot be downloaded by iPhone X owners. The phone that ushered in the Face ID era was introduced in 2017 alongside the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, which also won't be getting the next iOS update. It follows that the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR are the oldest devices that will receive the iOS 17 update when it becomes available to the general public.

All phones compatible with iOS 17 will get a new design of contact cards, Check In notifications and the StandBy function, which turns on while charging, when the phone is in horizontal position and expands the capabilities of Apple Home smart home control.

However, some features will only be available for new iPhones. For example, gestures with AR effects in FaceTime will require an iPhone 12 or later. The same requirement applies to the automatic correction of the entered words.

iOS 17 will also introduce a feature called Point and Speak, which uses the device's camera and LiDAR scanner to help visually impaired people interact with physical objects. Only iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro smartphones will get this function.
