June 6, 2023  12:04

Apple, at the Apple WWDC event held yesterday, introduced the Vision Pro mixed reality device, which combines the features of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). The novelty has quite interesting characteristics and is quite expensive.

The novelty is primarily presented as an augmented reality device, but it allows you to fully switch to the mode of three-dimensional virtual reality through a special analog wheel, similar to the wheel of the Apple Watch. Vision Pro does not include physical controllers. All control and movement between apps is done through gaze, gestures, as well as voice commands.

The device has five sensors, 12 cameras and a screen, is equipped with an active cooling system and built-in Audio Pods with support for sound distribution.

The Zeiss company has developed special magneto-optical pads for the headset, which are attached to the headset, thanks to which the device can be used by people wearing glasses.

The Apple Vision Pro has an external corded battery that can be worn on a belt or in a pocket. The device works for up to two hours on a single charge. If desired, it can be connected to the power supply.

An interesting feature of the novelty is the EyeSigh external digital display, which will display the user's eyes, which will allow people around to understand whether the user is in virtual reality.

The headset  has impressive characteristics. The Vision Pro screen fits 64 pixels into one pixel of the iPhone screen. Due to this, 23 million pixels are displayed on the screen, which consists of two panels (one for each eye). The novelty supports resolutions higher than 4K and has HDR support.

The device uses two processors. The main chip is M2. It is accompanied by the R1 auxiliary processor, which is responsible for the work of 12 cameras, five sensors and six microphones. The M2 chip is responsible for Vision Pro performance, the R1 for AR or VR functions.

Apple Vision Pro's VisionOS operating system may look familiar to iOS and iPadOS users. It has a home screen that displays the icons of various apps and widgets, with a transparent background underneath, so when using the device, it will appear as if they are floating in the air. Every interface element is written in 3D. Open application windows can be changed according to need and taste and moved to wherever you want. The graphical elements of the interface respond to the user's eye movements, and you need to work with your hands to select a specific application.

The Vision Pro 4K virtual display can also be displayed using a Mac. The device also has support for Magic Trackpad and Magic Keyboard. In other words, Bluetooth accessories can be used with the Vision Pro. The novelty also has support for a special version of FaceTime, which allows you to see the digital version of your interlocutor during calls. New interlocutors are added to the digital interface as floating digital avatars.

Vision Pro also works as a personal cinema. The screen size can be adjusted, and the device's operating system will capture the surrounding area and turn on the sound distribution function. It is also possible to watch 3D movies with the device.

Apple calls the Vision Pro "the most advanced electronic device" the company has ever created. More than 5,000 patents were used in its development, which took years. The novelty will go on sale at the beginning of next year, the price is 3499 dollars. At first, the novelty will be available only in the USA. Then the geography of sales by country will be expanded.
