TikTok launches monetization program for media companies: They will get 50% of ad revenue

TikTok has announced the launch of a new program, Pulse Premiere, which aims to give users with a large audience the opportunity to earn money from advertising. Ads will be displayed immediately after viewing user-generated content.

As reported by the Wall Street Journal, Pulse Premiere is an extension of TikTok's existing monetization program, Pulse, in which a group of top content creators will receive half of the revenue from ads displayed immediately after their posts.

For now, this program is limited to select accounts with large followings, such as media companies Condé Nast, BuzzFeed, and NBC.

But unlike the original Pulse program, which only monetizes the top 4% of creators' posts—based on platform metrics—, Pulse Premiere will enable to monetize ads after all videos.

The Wall Street Journal notes that the ability to sell ads on one of the most popular social media will be a great help for content creators who have found themselves in a difficult economic situation as a result of cost-cutting by advertisers.

Ray Cao, global head of monetization product strategy at TikTok, expressed confidence that TikTok will be able to support content creators in this way, while opening up new business opportunities for this social media platform itself.

The Wall Street Journal writes that thanks to partnerships with prestigious media companies such as Condé Nast, BuzzFeed and NBC, TikTok's Pulse Premiere gives advertisers the opportunity to associate their brand with quality content, increasing trust and awareness. Furthermore, as the user base of this social media grows, advertisers will be able to attract a diverse and engaged audience. And media companies will be able to expand their presence on this social media platform and gain insight into what content users are responding to.
