YouTube will offer nicknames to all users

All YouTube users will soon have a new authentication method. The company announced that each user will have a unique name descriptor, a nickname, which will be visible on the platform.

It will also appear on the channel page and in short videos. Users will be able to tag others using the descriptor in comments, video descriptions, captions and more.

"We want to ensure creators can craft an identity as unique as their content, while giving viewers the confidence that they are interacting with their favorite creators,” said YouTube in a blog post announcing the development.

The names of the user channels will remain the same.

Starting this week, YouTube will gradually introduce descriptors, notifying users when it's their turn to choose a nickname. If a user has already created a personal URL for his channel, it will automatically become the nickname of the user, of course, with the possibility of editing or changing it.

Earlier, YouTube announced the addition of watermarks to short films. As a result of this change, users will no longer be able to use videos uploaded to Shorts in other apps without a watermark.

YouTube is also working on a new program that allows users to monetize longer videos using licensed music. At the same time, the company intends to create the ability to monetize shorter videos as well. YouTube is launching an ad revenue sharing program whereby creators of short videos will receive 45% of revenue.
