Forbes names the world’s number 1 loser billionaire: It’s not Elon Musk

Forbes has published the annual ranking of the 25 richest people in the world: they have become poorer by 200 billion dollars compared to last year, but their total wealth is estimated at $2.1 trillion.

The magazine also mentioned the name of the billionaire whose wealth suffered the most last year. It turns out that it is not Elon Musk at all, but Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon.

Compared to March of last year, Bezos' wealth decreased by $57 billion. Amazon stock price in 2022 fell by 50%, making Amazon the first publicly traded company to lose $1 trillion in market value. Bezos is currently worth $114 billion, making him the third richest person on the planet.

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, SpaceX and Twitter, is in second place on the Forbes list, with a fortune of $180 billion, and Bernard Arnault, the CEO of the luxury goods company LVMH, is in first place, with an estimated fortune of $211 billion.

According to other sources, however, Elon Musk should be considered the main loser billionaire. In 2021 in November, he was the richest man in the world, and his wealth reached $340 billion. Since then, according to various estimates, he has lost about $182-200 billion and even set a record: no one had lost so much money in one year before him.

The reason for such a large capital loss was both the drop in Tesla shares and the acquisition of Twitter for $44 billion, with all the scandals surrounding this transaction.

For a while, Musk managed to regain the title of the richest man in the world, when his fortune reached $187 billion, against the background of a 100% increase in Tesla shares, but today he is still in second place on the list of billionaires.
