WhatsApp to launch new privacy feature: What advantages does it have?

April 3, 2023  14:05

A new function has been launched in the beta version 2.23.8.2 of the WhatsApp messenger, and this function aims to increase the level of privacy of users, the WABetaInfo website reports.

The new feature enables to lock individual chats, providing access to them only with a fingerprint or password. Thus, it adds an extra layer of security by protecting the users’ correspondence from third parties.

“Keep this chat locked and hidden. Use your fingerprint to open this chat and read notifications on this phone. For even more privacy, locked chats will be kept separate from other chats,” this new feature's description reads.

Media files, such as photos or videos sent to a locked chat, will not be automatically saved to the device's memory.

The new feature will be added in a future update of the messenger.

The release date for this function to the general public is not yet known.

The WhatsApp messenger recently released a number of other features and announced that a number of innovations are expected in 2023.
