OpenAI has made its first step into the world of hardware devices. The company has unveiled a compact keyboard called Codex Micro, created in collaboration with manufacturer Work Louder. The new device is primarily aimed at developers actively working with Codex AI agents.

What Codex Micro can do

The $230 keyboard allows users to control key AI functions without constantly switching between windows and tabs. Key features include:

• RGB backlighting that shows the status of each AI agent in real time. The color of the keys indicates whether Codex is performing a task, waiting for user input, or has already completed processing.
• Programmable buttons, a rotary dial, and a joystick for quickly launching common scenarios: code checking, bug detection, refactoring, starting a new chat, and activating voice mode.
• A "thinking level" dial for Codex, which lets users select the operating mode: fast for simple tasks or deeper analysis for complex ones.

Versions with tactile and silent switches are available.
