Samsung changes the game: The world’s first 1040 Hz monitor and glasses-free 6K 3D unveiled

Samsung has announced its 2026 Odyssey gaming monitor lineup, setting new benchmarks for the industry. Five models — ranging from record-breaking refresh rates to glasses-free 6K stereoscopic displays — target gamers, esports professionals, and content creators alike. The headline products are the Odyssey G6 with a 1040 Hz refresh rate and the Odyssey 3D with 6K resolution and depth effects. The lineup will be officially presented at CES 2026 in Las Vegas from January 6 to 9.

Odyssey G6: 1040 Hz for Esports

The Odyssey G6 (G60H) is the world’s first monitor with a 1040 Hz refresh rate, designed for extreme smoothness in competitive esports. It features a 27-inch IPS panel with two modes: 1040 Hz in HD resolution (likely 720p) and 600 Hz in QHD (2560×1440). Support for NVIDIA G-Sync, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, HDR10+, HDMI 2.1, and DisplayPort 2.1 ensures broad compatibility and high image quality. Response time is rated at 1 ms (GtG).

Running games at such extreme refresh rates in HD will require a very powerful GPU, such as a future RTX 5090, but 600 Hz in QHD is already a realistic target for top-tier gaming systems.

Odyssey 3D: 6K Resolution and Glasses-Free 3D

The Odyssey 3D (G90XH) breaks new ground in both resolution and visual effects. This 32-inch IPS monitor offers a 6K resolution (6144×3456) and uses eye-tracking technology to create a glasses-free 3D effect. Depth and perspective dynamically adjust to the viewer’s eye position, enhancing immersion in supported games such as Stellar Blade and The First Berserker: Khazan.

The display runs at 165 Hz in full 6K and up to 330 Hz in 3K using a Dual Mode feature. Response time is 1 ms, and connectivity includes HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.1, along with HDR10+ support. Beyond gaming, the monitor is aimed at professional content creation where extreme detail matters.

“We are introducing displays that would have seemed impossible just a year ago. From the first glasses-free 6K 3D monitor to 1040 Hz refresh rates, this is a new level of immersion,” said Hoon Lee, Executive Vice President of Samsung’s Visual Display business.

Odyssey G8: Three Models for Different Needs

The Odyssey G8 series expands with three additional models:

• G80HS (32", 6K, IPS): Similar to the Odyssey 3D but without the 3D effect; 165 Hz in 6K and up to 330 Hz in 3K.
• G80HF (27", 5K, IPS): 180 Hz at 5K (5120×2880) and up to 360 Hz in QHD.
• G80SH (32", 4K, QD-OLED): 240 Hz, anti-glare coating, 300 nits brightness, VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification, and DisplayPort 2.1 (UHBR20) with 80 Gbps bandwidth.

All models support AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and NVIDIA G-Sync for tear-free, fluid gameplay.

Market Impact and Outlook

Samsung currently leads the high-refresh-rate monitor segment above 144 Hz, holding 18.8 percent of the market according to IDC. The new Odyssey lineup is expected to strengthen that position, though pricing has not yet been announced. Given that the current 4K Odyssey 3D costs around $2,000, the new 6K models are likely to sit firmly in the premium category.
