iOS 26 leak: What Apple is preparing for 2026–2027 — from smarter AirPods to new health features

December 16, 2025  21:40

In late 2025, code from an early build of iOS 26 running on a prototype iPhone leaked online. This is not just about bug fixes: the code contains dozens of features Apple was planning for 2026 and even 2027. From improvements to Siri and Live Captions to the mysterious Health+ and new capabilities for Vision Pro. Of course, plans may change, but this is currently the clearest glimpse into the future of Apple’s ecosystem.

New Devices: From AirTag 2 to a Mysterious Home Product

The code includes references to upcoming hardware:

AirTag 2 has been pushed from 2025 to 2026: improved Bluetooth, tracking via iPhone and Apple Watch, better low-battery detection, and crowdsourced location features. An unknown home accessory, J229, possibly a long-awaited HomeKit camera or a smart home hub with sensors. AirPods will receive a spring 2026 update: contextual reminders, “conversation breakthrough” (likely enhanced noise cancellation), visual search, and precise outdoor positioning. Vision Pro will gain improved spatial audio with the AUSM Enhanced Room Spatializer in spring 2026. iOS 26: Siri Gets Smarter, Wallet Gets More Useful

Most features are marked for spring or fall 2026:

Siri: IntelligenceFlow, PlanOverrides, and SpotlightPersonalAnswers form the foundation of a more intelligent Siri that better understands context and plans actions. Live Captions will expand language support at WWDC 2026. AutoFill for credit cards in third-party apps is planned for fall 2026. Freeform will gain folders, while Journal will add tracking prompts. Wallet will introduce notifications for upcoming payments for Apple Card and bank cards. Photos will add Connections and Shared Collections for collaborative albums.

There are also mysteries: Health+ (spring 2026), likely an AI-powered health subscription, and projects codenamed Gumdrop and Geronimo, scheduled as far out as 2030, with no details yet.

Accessibility and Other Enhancements Background Sounds v2, full VoiceOver keyboard support on macOS, and an expanded font range. Magnifier will add object search, stair detection, and hand posture recognition. Live Listen will allow control from Apple Watch and include 30-second rewind. Tilt to Scroll will enable scrolling by tilting the device. 2027: A Strong Focus on Health and Sleep

Several features are tagged for WWDC 2027: sleepCloudKitSync, sleepOniPad, and sleepOnMac. This suggests Apple plans a major upgrade to sleep tracking across all devices.

In Brief

The iOS 26 leak reveals Apple’s plans for 2026–2027: a smarter Siri, new context-aware AirPods, AirTag 2, a Health+ subscription, expanded Live Captions, and many smaller accessibility improvements. There are also hints of a home camera and Vision Pro upgrades. Not everything may ship on schedule, but the direction is clear: AI everywhere, health as a priority, and deeper integration across devices. For Apple fans, 2026 is shaping up to be a very interesting year.
