Former Rockstar Games engineer Obbe Vermeij his blog X told a previously unknown secret about the secret codes in the games of the GTA series.

According to the developer, in Grand Theft Auto 3, Vice City and San Andreas there are cheat codes that give a certain advantage to players - for example, weapons or infinite health. In order to gamers did not immediately detect them, Vermeij encrypted the cheats with hash codes: each activating cheat combination of words received a different order of numbers.

For example, the ILOVESCOTLAND cheat, which activates rain, has a hash code 983. The specialist said that his trick worked, and the cheats were not found immediately after the release of the games, but then they were detected by brute force.

In addition, another problem arose due to the use of the new encoding. Sometimes hash codes were repeated for different combinations of characters. For example, the combination HDLMAAXOPK had the same hash code as ILOVESCOTLAND.

In addition, sometimes cheats were unintentionally entered by speedrunners - gamers who were passing GTA games for time. This caused them problems, as it is forbidden to use cheats during speedrunning games.
