YouTube has warned some users that their videos containing information about methods for bypassing blocking have been included in the register of prohibited information by the decision of Roskomnadzor. In this regard, the video hosting company has asked bloggers to remove such videos themselves, otherwise the company will be forced to block such content.
A representative of Roskomnadzor confirmed to journalists that the agency has sent requests to remove materials promoting the use of VPNs and other programs for bypassing blocking.
In addition, the regulator emphasized that the YouTube administration has not yet fulfilled the requirements to remove more than 300 such materials.
On March 1, 2023, amendments to the government decree came into force, allowing Roskomnadzor to block resources containing information about ways to bypass restrictions on access to prohibited content.
Also, from November 30, a ban on the dissemination of scientific, scientific-technical and statistical information about VPN services will come into force. The exception will be data that is necessary to ensure secure remote access. This order is valid until September 1, 2029.
