Meta is rolling out an AI selfie feature on Facebook and Instagram

Meta has announced that it is testing a new feature on Facebook and Instagram that will add artificial intelligence (AI)-generated images to users' news feeds. According to the announcement, AI content under the Imagined for You tag will be created based on the user's interests or current trends, including the user's own photos.

In the created scenes, the user can pretend to be a video game character or, for example, an astronaut exploring space. The system will use users' photos to create them.

Meta's press secretary, Amanda Felix, clarified that the platform will create images with the user's face only if he joins the Imagine function and accepts the relevant terms. Later, such photos can be shared or selfies can be created in real time.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg told The Verge that adding AI-generated images is the next "logical step" for Facebook and Instagram, when AI-generated content will appear in addition to user-generated content.

It is also clarified that if desired, users will be able to prohibit the display of AI images in their news feed, and the possibility of sharing them will remain optional. The same applies to pictures with the user's face. they will be available to everyone only if the user gives permission.

Meta emphasizes that the feature is currently in testing, so it's unclear how widely or quickly it will be rolled out.
