People don't realize that AI will soon replace them en masse, which is a serious problem, says creator of ChatGPT

Sam Altman, founder and CEO of OpenAI, the company that created the ChatGPT chatbot powered by artificial intelligence, stated that what people don't realize is that AI will really soon lead to massive layoffs in many industries. Altman made this statement in response to the question of what he thinks about whether AI-generated disinformation can affect elections.

"My biggest concern right now is the type, speed and scale of socio-economic change and what impact it will have," he said, adding that AI could massively displace people in various sectors and thus affect the economy.

Sam Altman noted that many people do not think seriously about this situation. According to him, GPT-4 does not pose a significant threat to jobs yet, so many people are now more relaxed about it.

"They think, well, we were worried a lot, when it's not a problem. I'm afraid we're just not going to take this issue seriously enough in the future, and that's a huge, huge problem," he said.

According to a study by the International Monetary Fund earlier this year, advanced AI technologies could affect about 60% of jobs in developed countries. It is reported that nearly half of these jobs could be automated, which could lead to the massive job cuts that Altman is talking about.

In an interview with CNBC last year, he said he was "a little afraid" of ChatGPT because the tool could replace humans in some jobs. He noted that these AI tools can help people in their work, potentially helping them do more in less time, yet they can also completely replace people in certain areas.

Many company leaders have confirmed that they have already replaced people in some positions with AI to improve productivity and efficiency.
