Google introduces new AI functions in Maps and Search: They will help travelers

Google has introduced several updates aimed at helping users plan their trips: new translation features, AI-generated route planning, and curated recommendations in Google Maps.

This week, Google Maps will start suggesting to users where to eat and which establishments to visit. Initially, this feature will only be available in some cities in the USA and Canada. Recommendations are updated weekly from various sources, including Lonely Planet, The New York Times, and OpenTable, and are divided into three lists: "Trending", "Best" of all time, and "Gems" - not very popular, but worth attention places.

In addition, a new generative artificial intelligence search feature is being tested, offering users travel ideas. The AI-generated route includes additional information such as flight and hotel options, as well as suggestions to visit specific places.

According to Google, over time, the AI will provide information about establishments, reviews, and photos - and the generated route can be sent to other Google services such as Gmail, Docs, or Maps. Currently, this feature is only available to participants in the Search Generative Experience (SGE) testing program.

The Circle to Search feature, introduced in January, has also been updated, which was previously mocked for its absence on the iPhone. Now, it allows users to translate information from any part of the screen by holding down the "Home" button or navigation panel and then pressing the translation icon. Until recently, the Circle to Search feature was only available on Google Pixel 7 Plus and Samsung Galaxy S24, but it should soon be available on other Android devices as well.
